Honestly, I'd recommend taking them out. Hedgehog filters and similar 'protectors' tend to clog up rather than help, and they get in the way of a proper clean. An annual full clear works better than any gutter guard I've seen.
Only if your property doesn't have an external power socket — the vacuum needs power. I have a 50m extension cable so I can run from anywhere in the house. Most homes work fine without anyone being in.
